In 2012, the Canadian Press ignited a firestorm of criticism by naming killer Luka Magnotta as its “Newsmaker Of The Year.” But while the recognition was questionable for its sensitivity, there’s no doubt that few people had captured the public’s attention like the young murderer and internet sensation.
A male escort and sometimes model, Magnotta had earned his notoriety by videotaping himself stabbing Chinese student Lin Jun to death with an ice pick and dismembering the body, before posting the video online. After mailing Jun’s hands and feet to elementary schools, he then led Interpol on a manhunt that ended when he was arrested at an Internet café in Berlin where he was reading news stories about himself.
An international celebrity in a macabre sort of way, with a legion of fans, Magnotta was brought back to Canada, convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to prison. During this time, Anna Yourkin, his estranged mother, troubled by Magnotta’s abused childhood and her role in that, reconnected with her killer son.
Despite his internet fame, Magnotta never agreed to any in-depth interviews. Now Magnotta has given award-winning journalist and author, Brian Whitney (RAW DEAL, THE SHAWCROSS LETTERS) an exclusive look inside the mind of this “social media” killer. I started this book in 2013. I wrote it from a place of hurt, devastation, love and confusion. Over the next three years I deconstructed my world looking for answers. I needed to come to terms with the fact that my son Luka Magnotta was charged and eventually convicted of first degree murder and why? I threw myself into my writing, I wrote in silence as the world came to their own conclusions surrounding the Luka Magnotta case. I refused to speak to the media, I just wanted to be left alone! As the years passed by and my research and discoveries were complete, the book was was finally finished. I approached WildBlue Press and they paired me up with author Brian Whitney to fine tune the book and get it ready for publishing. Over the months Brian and I formulated a plan as to how we would incorporate our writing as well as my son Luka’s opinions into the
book. Once we pulled it all together it turned out fabulous! I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities I have been offered, I can finally tell my side of the story in a non intrusive way! The book is filled with exclusive information and photos, This case drew worldwide attention but it was all one sided. Now the other “untold” side of the story is complete and ready to share with the world! My goal is that this book clears up the misconceptions, lies and lingering questions that have been circulating for years.
