DENVER. Dec. 28, 2017: After spending six years as an Army Infantryman, Lawrence Davis, returned to civilian life, adopted a Pitbull named Max to help cope with the transition, and began to write.
“Max saw me through some of the darker periods of that difficult transition…The way a dog can love you more than itself has always astounded me,” Davis said. But writing took things to a whole new level. “Originally, it started as a kind of cathartic exercise and then it just came
to life.”
His unique writing style blends realism with the supernatural. “As I wrote I realized I wanted the influence to be a mix of all the science fiction books and comics that I obsessed over in my youth as well as the hardships that I endured in my adult life.”
Davis’s debut novel, BLUNT FORCE MAGIC, tells the story of Janzen Robinson, a man lost between two worlds. He’s faced with choosing between a normal, mundane life or going up against the greatest threat to come to our world in a century. Though the book draws from Davis’s personal journey, it doesn’t mirror it. “It was an attempt to tightrope between the impossible and have gutpunching moments of relatability. I wanted to have the characters who walk amongst the make believe to still be themselves believable.”
Today, Davis lives in Florida with his four rescue pitbulls and girlfriend. He is passionate about writing and rescue dogs, and continues to find healing from post-traumatic stress disorder.
BLUNT FORCE MAGIC releases from WildBlue Press on January 10, 2018. To arrange an interview with the author or receive a review copy of the book, please contact WildBlue Press at Promos@WildBluePress.com.
